Industrial disease lawyers pursue claim for fireman in contact with asbestos
Mr G who was born in 1947 died in 2006 aged just 59. He had worked as a fireman from 1972 until 1974 and from 1975 until 2000.
His statement confirms “There was asbestos in the helmet, jacket and gloves with which we were provided…all of the fire trucks we had had asbestos sheeting 6ft x 4ft. On occasions you might have to use the asbestos slabs and after use they had to be scrubbed down and stored. You could see the dust coming off them. In the fire service I was never given any guidance or tips or lessons about handling asbestos. When you are going to a fire you do not think of any special hazards you simply go in and do the job. We were never told anything about asbestos difficulties and I never thought about the possible dangers.”
We are pursuing a claim for compensation on behalf of Mr G’s estate. It is anticipated that the industrial disease claim will be concluded within the next six months with damages paid in the region of £50,000.
