Malignant mesothelioma claim - Draftsman/test bed engineer
Mr G died in October 2004 aged 68. Boyes Turner's specialist lawyers were instructed on behalf of his family and in particular his widow, in May 2006.
Mr G worked as a draftsman in the test facilities design section for a well known aircraft engine manufacturer between 1961 and 1995. He became unwell with shortness of breath in July 2004, and was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma. The witness statement confirmed “Mr G worked on a section within the main test group, whose responsibilities were for the design and design modification of the C level engine test beds (based on gypsey path at the south test site). These test beds date from the 1940s, with the last pair being built for the Concorde project in the early 1960s. Over the years these test beds were modified on several occasions to incorporate different engine types and the main test group were responsible for the redesign of the plant and services to suit those engines. Modifications would sometimes require the removal/replacement of major plant items that had asbestos within them. Members of the design group would be required to go on to the plant to measure up and confirm the existing configuration before starting any design work or changes to of existing drawings. They would also regularly be called on site to answer any queries from the installation and maintenance personnel or for design discussions. These site visits were a regular part of Mr G’s job and at times would have been on a daily basis.
