Fatal mesothelioma claim for warehouseman
Boyes Turner's specialist industrial disease lawyers were instructed in November 2006 to pursue a compensation claim for Mr P, who had malignant mesothelioma. He had been exposed to asbestos whilst working as a retained fireman, and also whilst working in a factory/warehouse which was storing rotissomats (heat proof oven linings) which he often had to handle in the course of his work. The company that Mr P used to work for was no longer in existence, and had subsequently become part of a very complicated group of companies. Tracking down the proper successors in title and their insurers were very difficult. Our medical expert did not feel that the minimal level of exposure to asbestos as a fireman would have contributed towards the development of Mr P’s malignant mesothelioma but the dust from the rotissomats had.
Sadly, Mr P died in December 2006 aged 72. Armed with his lifetime statement, however, we were able to conclude his widow's claim for compensation for £140,000 in May 2008.
