£250k compensation for mesothelioma victim exposed to asbestos whilst working as BT engineer
Our client, Mrs P instructed our team in September 2006. Her husband had sadly passed away in May 2006 having been diagnosed with mesothelioma in November 2005.
Before his diagnosis Mr P had been incredibly active at home, and had done a lot of DIY including decorating, plastering, electrical work, plumbing and car maintenance. He had also been an avid gardener.
Mr P had worked as an electrician since leaving school. In 1961 he joined a large company as an electrician and was later promoted to Clerk of Works. His job involved maintaining electrical work and testing plant and ventilation. He had to work on cable racks which were insulated with bags of asbestos. His work also involved cleaning out and maintaining boilers which were lagged with asbestos, as was all the surrounding pipe work.
A colleague of Mr P provided us with evidence of exposure which persuaded the relevant insurer to concede liability.
Mrs P’s mesothelioma compensation claim was settled after just 7 months, in the sum of £250k (settlement net of benefits received and payment under the Pneumoconiosis Workers Compensation Act).
