£155k in compensation for the death of glassblower at Imperial College, London
Our client, Mr T was employed in the plant physiology department at The Imperial College in London.
Part of his job involved glass blowing making test tubes and other glass instruments. In order to do this, he used blue asbestos which he put in his mouth to shape through which he blew the glass.
In the Autumn of 2005 Mr T began to feel unwell.
He was rushed to hospital and diagnosed with mesothelioma at Guys Hospital. His condition deteriorated very quickly.
Before his illness Mr T had been an avid gardener, spending almost a third of his time on his allotment, growing vegetables, flowers and grasses. Mr T also undertook car maintenance and DIY.
Sadly Mr T passed away in October 2006, only a few months after being diagnosed.
Mrs T’s industrial disease claim was settled for £155k in June 2007 (settlement net of benefits received and payment under the Pneumoconiosis Workers Compensation Act).
