Malignant mesothelioma claims for compensation - tunnelling
The Industrial Disease lawyers are acting for the wife and family of Mr R who sadly died in September 2006 as a result of malignant mesothelioma. He was 74 when he died. He was a civil engineer by trade, specialising in tunnelling work. He became very senior within the company, and was often the engineer in charge of tunnel contracts. He was often exposed to asbestos in the course of his work. He was in close proximity to the caulkers, who would hammer, philplug caulking compound cords into the gaps between cast iron segments of the tunnel. He worked as a civil engineer on tunnelling works between 1951 and 1990, but in the early 1980s an asbestos free caulking compound was introduced.
Mr R died at the age of 74 in September 2006 as a result of malignant mesothelioma. We are acting for his wife and family.
Mr R began to feel unwell in the Spring 2006 and in April was told that he had an asbestos related condition - mesothelioma.
His family’s life was devastated by this diagnosis. Mr R died in September 2006.
It is anticipated that the industrial disease claim will conclude shortly for a substantial six figure sum.

We are pursuing an industrial disease claim for Mr G who was born in 1934. Between 1954 and 1985 he worked as a tunneller/caulker. He worked for the same companies and on the same project as Mr R. Mr G however was one of the caulkers who were hammering in the asbestos rope in between the sections of the tunnel in order to seal it. This involved very heavy exposure to asbestos dust for prolonged periods each and every day. In early 2005, a CT scan confirmed that he had asbestosis. He is currently in a permanent state of breathlessness and feels tired. He can only walk for 10 minutes before he needs to rest and suffers from chest pain, a feeling of tightness and constriction and has a permanent cough and wheeze.
Many of Mr G’s previous work colleagues have also been affected by asbestosis or mesothelioma.
We are pursuing a claim for compensation against the tunnelling firms for whom he worked for many years in the 50s, 60s and 70s. We are currently waiting for a medical report and will then be in a position to issue Court proceedings if the claim is not settled.
