Malignant mesothelioma compensation - Electricity Board
Mr E was 63 when he died as a result of mesothelioma. He leaves behind a widow and adult children. In the early 1960s Mr E worked for the London Electricity Board. His statement said “I remember working all over the City of London. As a labourer, I remember pulling the heavy cables through conduits in the ground. We worked on derelict buildings which were being refurbished or demolished and replaced. Whilst I was with the London Electricity Board I would work with six or eight others and was constantly in the presence of laggers. I remember being fascinated by the laggers and would watch them mixing the raw asbestos in large vats with what I assume was water. They would then apply the asbestos to the pipe work, wrap it with chicken wire and then coat it and finish it off. I worked for London Electricity for 12-18 months and during that time I was provided with no masks, and there was no extraction and no ventilation.”
Mr E became ill in September 2005. He developed a permanent cough and when he eventually went to his GP said he was told that he had a chest infection and prescribed antibiotics, which didn’t help. He died in June 2006.
Before becoming unwell he was fit and active doing lots of DIY, and used to do all the plumbing, painting, decorating, wallpapering, gardening and car maintenance for his four grown up children.
We are pursuing a mesothelioma claim against EDF Energy who took over London Energy, formerly the London Electricity Board.
It is anticipated that the case will conclude within the next six months.
