Living abroad

Expat industrial disease claims

There is no bar to bringing a claim in the UK if you are living abroad.

We act for many clients who have chosen to move abroad for their health or lifestyle.

If you are suffering from an asbestos related disease or condition and may have been exposed to asbestos while working in the UK or for a UK based or owned company you may be entitled to claim compensation.

For people suffering as a result of asbestos exposure there is usually no problem in bringing a claim even though the exposure occurred a long time ago. This is because the Court will allow you to start a claim three years after a person "knew or ought to have known" that they have suffered an injury. For many people this date is not until a formal diagnosis of an asbestos related disease such as asbestosis, pleural thickening, or mesothelioma is made.

If you have been diagnosed as having pleural plaques (discrete areas of calcification caused by asbestos fibres) you may have longer than the usual three year period in which to start your claim so contact us regardless of when you were diagnosed.
