Noise Induced Hearing Loss and Tinnitus

Where a person has been exposed to high levels of noise over a prolonged period as a result of their working environment, they may be suffering from noise induced hearing loss and/or tinnitus.

Typical industries can include mining, textiles, engineering, factory workers, steel workers, saw mill workers and road workers. Ear protection may have been provided over the years by the employer but this may have been inadequate to protect against noise damage.

Hearing loss from prolonged exposure to noise is usually gradual and once your hearing has been damaged there is no cure. Because the hearing loss is gradual, people can be unaware of the austerity of the hearing loss until it combines with hearing loss due to ageing.

Tinnitus or a continuous sound in the ears such as a ringing noise can be temporary or permanent.

Sufferers of noise induced hearing loss report difficulty in social situations, in particular when there is background noise. They also report difficulty hearing the television, doorbell or radio.

If you have been diagnosed as suffering from the above, we can help you. If you have not yet been diagnosed but now suspect that your hearing may have been damaged due to noise exposure we can also help you. If you would like to get in touch please fill in the form under the 'Contact us' link at the top of this web page or use the contact details below.
