Dermatitis

Irritant contact dermatitis

This is caused where the skin comes into contact with a particular substance or allergen.  This can occur after one exposure or after repeated exposure over a long period.

Any industrial process that involves the handling or touching of dust, chemicals or enzymes has a potential to cause irritant contact dermatitis.

It usually affects the back of the hands, finger webs, forearms and face. It can start with a stinging or burning sensation and result in small areas of dry, scaly skin.

Allergic contact dermatitis

This occurs as a result of the sensitisation of an individual to a particular substance or allergen. This could occur after one exposure or after repeated exposure over a prolonged period.

Again, an industrial process that involves the handling or touching of dust, chemicals or enzymes has a potential to cause allergic contact dermatitis.

This type of dermatitis can be difficult to control. It usually results in the swelling of the skin together with itching.

If you have been diagnosed as suffering from the above, we can help you. If you have not yet been diagnosed but now suspect that you may be suffering from the above, we can help you. Fill in our contact form and we will be in touch.
