Mesothelioma patient beats the odds
Jon Matthews who has mesothelioma bet he would beat the doctors estimate of his life expectancy.
On 1 June 2008 Jon collected £5,000 from the bookmakers having survived his mesothelioma since diagnosis in April 2006.
Jon had been told by doctors that the longest that anyone had survived was 25 months.
Jon bet £100 that he would survive.
Jon said that half of the money would go to the cancer charity Macmillan and the other half on himself.
